Pops: The Doctor in Voyager might possibly (possibly) be able to edge McCoy in a straight fight. But if you’re in a situation where you’ve already got Kirk and Spock you’ve got to have the third member of the triumverate, haven’t you?

Stu: Yeah, I’ve seen it. But there’s barely room for one mumorperger in my affections, and I reckon that’ll either be Champions Online or (maybe) DC Universe.

Besides, there’s no way it’ll recreate the thrill and excitement that IS Being The Science Officer In The Pen And Paper Star Trek RPG.

Dude, that was Scotty, not Bones. And the point was that he needed telling that he would invent it (and the formula) to move the story along. I’m more interested to know how he was able to work out the exact location of the ship and beam aboard it without any errors or extra equipment. Hmmmm…

That said, I’m not thinking about it in case it takes the sheen off a great film. Oh crap…

In some cases I didn’t see much of them.

Ooooh, don’t tempt. Although on reflection it’s difficult to see how anyone breaks the original crew’s stranglehold. Chief O’Brian vs. Scotty is the only coinflip, really. Picard’s great but Kirk is Kirk. Much as I like Major Kira from DS9 there’s no chance she’s taking Spock’s spot as First Officer. Sulu and Chekov aren’t exactly irreplacable in the Blokes Who Work The Phasers slot but their only competition is Tom “Bloody” Paris or Wesley “Die! Die! Die!” Crusher.

For someone who don’t like Star Trek, you seem to have seen every episode of every spinoff, hardi har har.

Look forward to seeing the film and request that you do that age old boy/Trek thing in public on this blog- assemble the “master crew” from all the Series’ss’s.

Totally agree, mate. The film has so much heart that you find yourself feeling a tad guilty about nitpicking. That said, I think they missed a bit of a trick with the Romulans; I would have liked to have seen the results of their following the “emotional path” thing developed a bit more particularly as a “compare & contrast” to the whole Vulcan “logic” trip. All we really got as the main thing driving the Romulans forward was a very grumpy Eric Bana whining about the death of his significant other (oh, alright, plus a planet as well) because no one could be bothered to turn up in time to save the day 25 years earlier. It’s still the best Trek movie to date by some considerable margin though…
