Having spent most of the years 1938 - 1945 in a boat in the north sea pulling downed pilots out of the drink (he served in the RAF sea rescue service), he only ever saw planes from a unique viewpoint. When my brother and I asked him to identify the planes in the WWII section, he would usually answer words to the effect of &quot;I&#039;m not sure... but if you set it alight and drop it from a height, I&#039;d have a fairly good stab&quot;.</description>
